The Patterns

Fall 2017, University of Pennsylvania

Software: Illustrator, Rhino, Grasshopper

I learned and explored grasshopper to generate patterns of specific traits. I identify three traits when generating patterns and volumes: “path”, “branches” and “dissolving”. I created free-form or geometric "subtractors" to cut from the base shape according to a set process to have the "tiles". I used the same "subtractors" but different field density to create the "patterns". I used the 3D iterations of "subtractors" to cut from solids to create the "3D tiles" that bear one or two of the chosen traits.
